Footsteps in the Dust

My wings drag the ground,
And so does my heart
That something so simple
Should keep us apart
And though this thing hurts me,
That you've broken my trust,
All this no more painful
That footsteps in the dust.

It wasn't all your fault,
For I broke the rule...
To think I could have you
Was playing the fool.
And thought I deserve this;
My sentence was just,
All this no more painful
Than footsteps in the dust.

Don't mind my tears rolling;
With time, they will dry,
Though I will think about you
As these days go by.
My cheeks may be stained now,
And my hair be amussed,
But all this no more painful
Than footsteps in the dust.

My body will miss you,
My arms, they will ache.
But my heart is now healing;
No more will it break.
My soul will soon bury
These feelings of lust;
All this no more painful
Than footsteps in the dust.

Admit that I love you?
Why, never will I!
When away from this place
In a heartbeat I could fly...
As you watch me disappear
On the wind's faintest gust,
You'll know this no more painful
Than footsteps in the dust.
