Fast Kid –Bridge to Terabithia

Trained all summer, yes I did…
Swore I’d be the fastest kid
in school! I’d earn the most respect
from ev’ry boy my age!

We all lined up on our old dirt track,
Waiting for the kid to yell
BANG! so we’d be off like shots
and I’d leave ‘em in my wake.

Pulled right out to an early lead…
Knew that training’d done some good!
I flew that track with dust at my heels
and sweat and a smile on my face.

Nearly halfway, with my heart in my throat,
like a dove in a pale blue tank-tee,
she sailed right past on an arrogant, free wind—
the new fastest kid in the school.
