It took us a while to get this comic up. Beedoo! had some trouble drawing it, and by the time it was finally done, I had a hard week at work, and didn't have the energy to scan and upload it.
So, resolutions. Well, I actually have some, but they have little to do with the new year. You see, last December we learned that a friend of ours from years back, whom we met in the Station 8 chatroom (where we met each other also), commited suicide last February. We knew him as 'Wraith'. He was an intelligent guy, nice and entertaining. I always suspected that there lay something less pleasant behind the image he projected. You see, I know of people who know that their life is hard because they have so much more to complain about than other people. What they never seem to see is this: not everybody complains. Some people have it hard enough that it's better to smile and joke and go for making things better. Was this Wraith? I don't know. I always suspected so. I think he deserved better.
My resolutions are simple: I want to keep in touch with people. I'm not good at keeping in touch. I often want or need to be by myself, and often my thoughts distract me. That's just how my brain works. But I want to keep what is good. Watch for me being around. I'll do my best.
I also resolved to catch up on the Station 8 Chat Quotes. For those who don't know what these are: for years I saved the funny things people said in the chatroom and put them on my website. I stopped doing it when things got too unpleasant for me, but I have so many funny things still left to show. Beedoo! is helping me, so watch for more updates this year!
We'll also keep doing this comic as far as I'm concerned, of course. We're getting married! Think of all the comedic potential! Watch us flail around trying to make it appear like we know what we're doing!
Happy New Year! I'll do my part. :)
Meanwhile, yes, there's the chat quotes, backlogged since 1996, and probably with a chunk missing (it wasn't me! ...or rather, since I ducked out of S8 and Arno seemed to follow, maybe it was me...). Arno's method is harder than you would think, having to read through the logs, figure out why it was quoted, chop out irrelevant bits, paste IN bits from the following page, make sure things aren't too long and that they stop at a punchline, view things to make sure I haven't messed up the code... it's tedious and brain-draining. Arno made a program to help sort and view everything, but it's far from being able to do all of the picking and choosing itself. It's hours and hours of WORK. I don't think Arno ever really mentioned how much time it took him to process the chat quotes; people just expected them to appear, because how much work could they be? Just copy/paste, done. Nope. So we're trying to get this backbone of Station 8 back on its feet. And, of course, we'd like to attract people back to S8 with it, so we have more to work with. ;) We've made things move a bit faster there already... though again, Wraith ended up falling through the cracks, and we want to prevent this from happening again.
But for now, I've got a stack of back comics to draw and more planning to oversee! And then comics to draw about that!
